KALAMAZOO, Mich. (June 27, 2008) - Women’s soccer head coach Mike Haines announced the 18-match schedule for the upcoming 2008 season. The Broncos open up the season with a home match against Wyoming on Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. The match is the only out-of-conference home contest for the Broncos this season, but will have two exhibition home matches with IUPUI on Aug. 14 and Davenport on Aug. 17. From there the Brown & Gold begin a six-game road trip traveling to face Wisconsin, Wisconson-Milwaukee, Michigan, Michigan State, Arkansas and Missouri State.

“We are going to be on the road quite a bit during the non-conference schedule,” said Haines. “It adds some difficulty to an already difficult schedule. We tried to spread it out as much as we could and most of the road trips are manageable.”

The Broncos dropped a match at Missouri State, 2-0, in 2007 but shut out Arkansas 1-0 at the WMU Soccer Complex. WMU last visited Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines in 2006 and came away with a 0-0 tie. Western Michigan opens up Mid-American Conference play on Friday, Sept. 26 with defending MAC Tournament champions Toledo coming to Kalamazoo.

The Broncos will host the top four teams from the 2007 standings this season. The Brown & Gold host MAC Tournament runner-up Bowling Green on Sept. 28, host regular season champions Ball State on Oct. 24 and end the season hosting third-place Northern Illinois on Oct. 30. WMU also hosts Akron on Oct. 10 and Ohio on Oct. 12 to round out their home schedule.

“I definitely thinks it always helps being at home and having seven home conference games this year is a big plus,” said Haines. “Ball State is a tough place to play at and we like having them at home. We haven’t had Toledo at home in three years and those are definitely two of the tough teams in the MAC.”

WMU is on the road against conference rivals Eastern Michigan, Oct. 3, and Central Michigan, Oct. 5. WMU must also travel to Kent State on Oct. 17 and Buffalo on Oct. 19.

All Western Michigan women’s soccer matches are open to the public.
