The win allowed the Outrage to collect the inaugural "Old Burdicks Challenge Cup" in their first ever competitive match. To mark the occasion the Outrage wore the uniforms of their international affiliate Sheffield Wednesday.
The Outrage and the 2006 PDL champion and 2007 PDL runners up Michigan Bucks had to be separated by Penalty Kicks after the match finished 1-1 in regulation with the Outrage winning the shootout 5-4 on the night.
Played at a windswept Mayors Riverfront Park in downtown Kalamazoo the Outrage took the lead in the 16th minute of play when English striker Dan Bulley fired home from a close range indirect free kick. The Outrage managed to hold the lead until the 44th minute when experienced Bucks striker Kenny Uzoigwe equalized tapping into an empty net from 2 yards after Outrage custodian Bobby Shuttleworth could only parry Nate Jafta's goal bound toe poke.
The second half remained a tight affair with neither side able to make any change to the scoreline and penalty kicks were required to find a winner. Bucks midfielder Zac Scaffidi had the misfortune of having his penalty kick saved by second half Outrage substitute and former Bucks player Mitch Hildebrandt while all 5 of the Outrages shooters scored convincingly past the Bucks keeper Steven Clark.
Outrage head coach Stu Riddle was delighted to remain undefeated and lift the trophy "I think it's wonderful that we were able to attract a team of the Bucks quality to play us in this cup match. To win this game is a great boost for this club and our players as we embark on our inaugural season" Riddle hopes his side will continue their excellent form into their regular season "The players will now believe what I've known all along - we are good enough to compete with the best and we must carry this momentum through to Friday night".
The Outrage host the West Virginia Chaos this Friday night May 16th. The match will be played at Mayors Riverfront Stadium with kick off set for 8pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate with children aged 6-13 being charged $2, adults 14 and up $3.
