Goals from Mark Briggs and Lance Muckey provided the platform for the victory and improved the Outrage's season record to 6-2-1. Incredibly the Outrage have an amazing 5-1 record away from home.
Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Briggs opened the scoring for the Outrage in the 15th minute curling a beautiful free kick into the corner of the Ft Wayne net from 20 yards out. Muckey, who was playing in a more attacking role, doubled the Outrage lead just 3 minutes later when he finished Mahamadou Simpara's excellent through ball. It was a great moment for Muckey who saw much of his college career dogged with injury and he took great delight scoring against one of his former clubs.
Outrage Head Coach Stu Riddle made 3 half time changes and a further 2 early into the second half and as a result of this the team lost some cohesion and Ft Wayne pulled a goal back in the 77th minute when Cam Jordan scored from close range.
Despite a late rally from Ft Wayne the Outrage held on to register their 5th win in their last 6 outings.
Riddle was delighted that his side collected all 3 points available tonight " We got the desired result and that's a sign of a good team when we know we can play better. You never want to make wholesale changes but we have played 3 games in 5 days now and have another big game on Sunday and there were some key guys that just couldn't give us any more effort tonight"
The Outrage now play what Riddle describes as a "huge" game on Sunday night at home against the Indiana Invaders. Last month the Outrage defeated the Invaders 4-0 in South Bend but Riddle says his side can expect to see a different Invaders side this time around "I've watched them closely in person twice since we last played them. They have added some excellent players and will provide very tough competition. It will be our 4th game in 7 days and our players are really feeling the effects of these matches".
Sunday (6/15) night's match with the Invaders will kick off at 7pm and will be played at Mayor's Riverfront Stadium in downtown Kalamazoo.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate with children aged 6-13 being charged $2, adults 14 and up $3.
