Men's National Team ended their three-game tour of Mexico with a 2-1 win
against the U-19 Chivas Team in Guadalajara, Mexico, last Friday. The
Under-17's began last week with a 2-2 draw against Chivas' U-18s, before
losing 1-3 to Tecos Under-19s and then wrapping up with a win against
the older Chivas team. The U.S. team is made up of players still
training in Bradenton, Fla., from this year's Under-17 Men's National
Team and players already in training for the 2003 Under-17 World
Championship. The Under-17's played four games before heading to
Mexico, posting three wins against older Florida club teams before
losing 4-0 to Major League Soccer's Tampa Bay Mutiny.
Jesse Marsch to replace Reyna for last qualifier United States Men’s National Team midfielder Claudio Reyna will not join training camp for the USA’s upcoming qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago, Head Coach Bruce Arena announced Saturday. Reyna will be replaced by Chicago Fire midfielder Jesse Marsch on the 21-man roster that will train for the November 11 match in Port of Spain, Trinidad. U.S. goalkeeper Adam Schuerman made nine saves to preserve the shutout. The victory comes one week before the U.S. will depart Florida for Trinidad & Tobago and the Under-17 FIFA World Championship.
USA suffers 3-2 home defeat to Honduras Despite two goals from captain Earnie Stewart, the United States Men’s National Team suffered a 3-2 defeat to visiting Honduras before a charged crowd of 54,282 in the nation’s capital, ending the USA’s 19-match home unbeaten run in qualifying play. Milton Nunez netted twice on either side of a Carlos Pavon penalty kick to give the Hondurans 11 points and third place in the Hexagonal. In spite of the loss, the U.S. remains in the second position on 13 points.

McBride's season ending blood clot concern recurs Columbus Crew forward Brian McBride will miss the remainder of the 2001 Major League Soccer season due to a reformation of a blood clot in his upper right arm.
Doctors at Riverside Methodist Hospital performed a vascular procedure to open up the vein on Wednesday, August 15. McBride is on blood thinner medication that will force him to miss the rest of the season.
US Youth soccer hands out grants for disabled kids US Youth Soccer, the largest youth
sports association in the nation, is awarding cash and equipment grants to
57 TOPSoccer and Soccer Start programs throughout the nation. Over a
quarter of a million dollars will be awarded to assist these two signature
programs in making youth soccer available for economically disadvantaged
children and children with disabilities.
Nike Women's US Cup opens in Chicago September 7 Germany, winners of the 2001 European Women's Soccer Championships just over a month ago, will open the 2001 NIKE U.S. Women's Cup with a match
against Japan on Friday, Sept. 7, at Schwaben Field in Buffalo Grove,
Ill., a northwest suburb of Chicago. The game, which kicks off at 5:30
p.m. CT, will be the opener for the four-team, six-game tournament that
also features the United States and China.
Americans in Europe update U.S. international forward Jovan Kirovski earned a start in his first

US Open Cup semifinal venues, dates set The Los Angeles Galaxy will host the defending U.S. Open Cup champion Chicago Fire in the 2001 U.S. Open Cup semifinals at Cal State Fullerton on August 22 in a match that will be televised live at 8 p.m. PT (11 p.m. ET) on Fox Sports World and Fox Sports World Español. The Galaxy-Fire showdown is a rematch of the team's epic 2000 semifinal showdown won last summer by Chicago at Cal State Fullerton 2-1 on a sudden-death overtime goal from forward Josh Wolff. In the Eastern bracket, the surprising New England Revolution will host 1996 U.S. Open Cup champion D.C.
